Research Findings Conducive to Agricultural Production

Recently the Academy of Agricultural Science has made valuable scientific achievements conducive to the stable and sustainable development of agricultural production.

Researchers in the crop breeding sector have developed superior strains suited to the regional and climatic features of the country.

The rice institute has developed new strains of rice that have a high resistance to diseases and strong wind and produce a high and stable yield even in tideland-turned and ordinary paddy fields. They are now on the list of state strains.

The wheat and barley institute has succeeded in raising and introducing new strains of wheat which are high in gluten content and per-hectare yield and can be cultivated even in the northern highlands as they are strongly resistant to diseases and cold weather.

The corn institute and the dry-field crop institute have developed a high-yielding strain of corn and a strain of soya bean as an after crop, both suitable for double farming, and bred a new strain of pepper that can be widely cultivated at greenhouses for its high acridity and yield and fragrant smell.

Sci-tech hits conducive to consolidating the technical foundation of the agricultural sector have also been made.

The agricultural informatization institute has established an agricultural management and information system through national computer network to keep tabs on the implementation of farming processes at the agricultural guidance organs and production units, number of workdays of farmers and income distribution and take relevant measures and developed an e-map embracing the locations of the water sources and irrigation facilities in relevant regions and their characteristics. On the basis of this, it has developed and introduced a water control and support system that gives real-time information on the present situation of the observation posts and makes it possible to take control of the water sources.

Besides, the agricultural land resources institute has established a method of estimating soil characteristics by satellite image interpretation technique which is of great significance in taking scientific measures for farming.
