Science Promotes Iron Production

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex has introduced valuable scientific and technological achievements.

Scientists of Kim Il Sung University have recently developed an advanced analytical apparatus and introduced it into large-sized oxygen plants.

This apparatus is an infrared ray gas analyser capable of measuring the density of an infinitesimal amount of carbon dioxide with a very high accuracy, which has been urgently required for the operation of oxygen plants.

The introduction of the analyser has made it possible to put the operation of oxygen plants on a scientific footing and normalize the iron production by energy-saving oxygen blast furnace.

Researchers of the Physics Institute of the State Academy of Sciences have made successes in optimizing the operation of oxygen-blast furnace.

They have developed an oxygen analyser, a waste gas analyser, etc. that quickly and accurately analyse the chemical composition of raw materials, fuel, molten iron, slag and the purity of injected oxygen. And they have developed and introduced a system for collecting data on the general state of the furnaces and accordingly determining the amounts of required fuel and charges.

The new system has proved its economic effectiveness and advantages in practice. It drastically reduces energy consumption and time for the analysis of waste gas density, air amount, cooling water temperature, etc. and enhances the stability of the overall processes.

As a result, the complex can save a large amount of anthracite every day and remarkably lower the sulfur content, thus raising the quality and output of molten iron.
