The Sojang branch of the Pothonggang District General Tailor Shop in Pyongyang is one of the leading garment makers in the city. The one-piece dresses made at the branch are winning popularity among customers.
This is unthinkable apart from the painstaking efforts of designer Ri Jin Hui called a “gardener” by customers.
She liked drawing so much from her childhood. Endowed with unusual observation and memory, she would vividly draw anything she had seen.
When she saw clothes on pictorial books or TV in her primary and middle school days, she used to design modified versions of them by herself and sometimes put clipped colour paper on them.
She dreamed of becoming a designer whose job is to make people look beautiful. As she hoped, she began her career as a designer.
While working, she realized that a designer needs to be more sensitive to the reality, knowledgeable and responsive than anybody else to the natural environment that varies with seasonal change.
She steadily cultivated her ability. She learned from fine artists how to choose elegant and beautiful colours and discussed with others the visional effect of colours of clothes seen under different light conditions such as morning glow or twilight.
She regards designing as an art. She has so far produced hundreds of novel and unique designs to the admiration of experts.
She won top prize at the spring women's garment shows held in 2023 and 2024.
She is now devoting all her wisdom and enthusiasm to her work.
