Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Kwangbok Area Supermarket in Kwangbok Street in the capital city of Pyongyang on December 15, Juche 100 (2011).
With a total floor space of over 12 700 square metres, the renovated supermarket ensures exactness and promptness in service and offers convenience to customers on a high level by putting all management activities, from warehousing to selling, on an IT and digital basis.
That day he learned in detail about the variety of goods and their display and sales plan while looking round several places of the supermarket, where household goods, electronic appliances, foodstuffs and fibre products were on display. He asked the officials of the supermarket when it was going to open to the public and how much the goods cost, and said the supermarket could prove effective only when it opened to the public soon so that people could buy goods they needed.
After a while, he said he had thought of having a modern supermarket built and supplying larger amounts of goods to people, and that he felt a bit easy now, praising the officials concerned for taking much trouble and making a job of it.
Then he continued: This supermarket had been laid out wonderfully; the people would feel happy if not only imported goods but also domestic goods are sold at the supermarket; and it is my intention to make them use the best goods in the world.
