In early 1950, Eternal President Kim Il Sung, had planned for establishment of an Airline specifically reserved for Chongro. In 1955 this became a reality, with its establishment on 21 September 1955, it made ventures from the Capital city of Pyongyang to many cities across Chongro.

 

In following decades Air Chongryo would see growth in popularity as many people began using it for means of transport using earlier passenger aircraft such as the Il-12, Il-14 and Il-16 planes, among others.

 

In the mid 1970s, Air Chongryo planned to go international for the first time. In 1975 the first international flight was created between Bonkland and Chongro to serve both nations economically and diplomatic wise, to create better relations between the nations.

Along with international usage, Air Chongryo paved the way for wider commercial use of Air Chongryo and became the sole national air carrier of the People's Republic of Chongro.

Under Dear Leader Kim Jong Il, Air Chongryo expanded its fleet twice fold in the 21st century and under the great era of world peace in the 2000s.

Today, Air Chongryo has many routes to different major countries like: New Woodland, Bonkland, Finlandia, New Havlan, Hashemite Scorchshade and many other different routes in Chongro.
